Christianity, with the Catholic Church as its surrogate, will face direct challenges to core beliefs and practices from the Federal Government. The three “fronts” that will be attacked are Gay Marriage, the Freedom to Express Religious Opinions Openly and of course Abortion. The Federal Government will use the IRS to choke Christian and other religions into submission via the withdrawal of their tax exempt status and the withholding of grants to Christian Charities.
The Catholic Church has already curtailed its adoption services when the Federal Government tried to force the Church to adopt children to gay couples. Rather than lose its tax exempt status, which would have also hurt contributors to Catholic Charities, this organization shut down its adoption service group. The other unwritten policy against the Catholic Church/Christianity is a policy by HHS referred to by the Church as ABC, “Anybody But Catholics” (1). This practice could also be described as Anybody but Christians. This practice eliminated the Catholic Church from receiving funding under a longstanding grant program administered by HHS for Human Trafficking. The Federal Government would rather shut down a highly successful and acclaimed Catholic Program than have the Catholic Church help thousands in need…and over the recommendation of their own staff and an independent review board!
How will the Military be used? First of all, those in the military, including Priests, Ministers, Rabbis, and Muslim clerics, are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice that in many ways override an individual’s Constitutional Rights. We all recognize the special nature of military service and the need for an absolute submission to military authority, but when social engineering supersedes the military’s sole charter to protect our nation against foreign enemies, we all need to pause and take stock of what is happening. Forcing social change onto the military is a simple matter of changing the rules for the military in the UCMJ. Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution provides that “The Congress shall have Power… To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval forces.” However, the Executive Branch can, via Executive Order, modify “Manual for Courts Martial”. This process can change what “offenses” are subject to discipline among other changes to enforce behavior changes within the ranks of the military. All without Constitutional protections.
- Military Challenging Christianity: Lt. Col. Kenneth Reyes, an ordained minister whose duties are to provide religious instruction and spiritual counseling at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, is currently threatened by actions by his CO, Col. Brian Duffy, for Reyes posting on the Base Website “Chaplin Page”, an essay entitled, “No Atheists in Foxholes: Chaplains Gave All in World War II.” Sound familiar? It should. The sentiment was first opined by President Dwight D. Eisenhower during a 1954 speech when he said, “I am delighted that our veterans are sponsoring a movement to increase our awareness of God in our daily lives. In battle, they learned a great truth that there are no atheists in the foxholes.” (2) The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), led by activist/atheist Mikey Weinstein blew a gasket and loudly complained to the base commander, Col. Brian Duffy. Keep in mind Weinstein has penned such gems as; “Christians are fundamentalist monsters seeking to impose a reign of theocratic terror”; he also described sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ as spiritual rape! The Obama-Hagel Defense Department has met with Weinstein over the past 4 years listening to his anti-Christian rhetoric and then implementing various levels of restrictions on Chaplains in terms of their evangelization and religious speech. Lt. Col. Reyes religious freedom was trampled on when the base commander took down the article and is now considering disciplinary action against Reyes!
- Curtail Freedom of Religious Speech: The above example is just the beginning of curtailing religious instruction and spiritual counseling in the military for Christians. Overt evangelization is off-limits already. This prohibition will be taken to other non-Muslim religions as well. For some reason, Muslims are exempt from these attacks on religious expression. You may think that curtailing the Freedom of Religious Speech could not happen in the civilian sector but it already has, CAN YOU PRAY ANYWHERE YOU WANT TO TODAY!! Absolutely not. Other forms of Religious Speech will follow suit.
- Gay Marriage in the Military: The next step could be the forcing of Chaplains, who have personal and religious objections to Gay Marriage, to have to preside over a marriage between gay couples. The Chaplains would either have to comply or face Courts Martial, without any recourse to Constitutional challenge. Soon, Gays will apply to be married in Christian and other houses of worship who believe that marriage is between a man and a women in support of natural law and procreation. When these religious institutions refuse to perform the ceremony, they will be sued as violating the civil rights of the couple. It is doubtful that Supreme Court would side with the religious institutions and even if they do, the Federal Government could pull the tax exempt status of the religious institution and withhold any grant funding for their charities. This test will probably come within the next 6 months…
Abortion: The Federal Government’s Health and Human Services department has already told the Catholic Church that it must provide abortifacients, sterilization, and ultimately abortions under Obamacare! This Federal Government is on a mission to systematically dismantle this Nation’s “Under God” creed as envisioned by our founding fathers and as set forth in our US Constitution. All Christian and other religions must stand together now before it is too late. The Catholic Church has been singled out due to its size. Once the largest Church falls, the rest will be easy.
Whatever your religion, prayer and action are critical at this time. Don’t stand by until it is too late. It is already an uphill battle and the longer we wait to oppose the loss of the FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION, the harder it will be to turn back this secular tide.
