Assume you are an American Soldier deployed for one or two tours in Afghanistan.
Assume you have been in combat several times defending the mission of your country, the United States.
Assume the Secretary of Defense, your #2 Commander-In-Chief, tells you to disarm before you can attend a meeting with him!
Then to make matters worse, he tells you he is doing this so the Afghan Army attendees who are disarmed do not feel bad!
Unfortunately, this is not a hypothetical. It actually happened yesterday on Leon Panetta’s visit to Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan. Our military men and women followed orders and complied with the disarmament and attending the meeting to hear their “fearless” leader. What would the New York Times have said if George W. Bush had disarmed our troops before he would have Thanksgiving dinner with them?
What kind of a message did we send our Troops and the Afghans?
- That the Secretary of Defense is Afraid of his own troops and DOES NOT TRUST THEM!
- We had a chance to show the Afghan Army that they needed to EARN OUR TRUST AND RESPECT and they were disarmed as a result of their murdering our troops.
- We had a chance to show President Karzai that we are still calling the shots as long as it is our men and women’s lives on the line as well as our money!
The only consistency with this latest affront to our Troops is that the Obama Administration is consistent in their disdain for our military. Sargeant Major Hall said, “All I know is I was told to get the weapons out. Somebody got itchy — that’s all I’ve got to say. Somebody got itchy. We just adjust.” I would love to know what was going on in the minds of our troops who were told that they had to check their weapons before entering. This is after they have been targeted by Afghan Soldiers and they have been threatened to be beheaded by the Taliban WHO WE ARE NEGOTIATING WITH NOW.
If it was a good time for Obama to pull out one of his infamous BOWS, now is the time to BOW to our Troops and ask for their forgiveness.
Panetta should resign if he is afraid of his own troops and if he can’t face his own troops unless they are disarmed… Disgusting!
