Thank you Cissy Houston and Family for sharing your Memorial for Whitney Houston. We were all Blessed!
With all of the Paparazzi style of news coverage leading up to Saturday’s memorial at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, I was expecting somewhat less than a spiritual send off to Whitney Houston. Would Bobby Brown be there and ruin the memorial like he did Whitney’s life? Would there be some odd political agenda permeating the fabric of the service? No, the service was 3 1/2 hours of pure spiritual joy capped off by music and a stirring Eulogy by Whitney’s spiritual family, the Winans.
There was a perfect balance of humor and sadness in the anecdotes by many of the presenters such as Kevin Costner, Tyler Perry, and a stirring remembrance by Ray Watson, Whitney’s brother-in-law and Body Guard of some 11 years.
It was fitting send off for a class act such as Whitney and we hope that in the days to come, the news media leaves her be. She had joy, tragedy, love and pain in her life just as all of us who are human beings. We do not need to know any more details surrounding her death. I want to remember her through the words of Pastor Marvin Winans as he eulogized Whitney and reminded us all of the Promise of the Bible that Christ overcame death by dying on the cross for us, then rising again on Easter Sunday. Whitney will rise for us whenever we her voice on the radio, our iPods, on Television or whenever one of her songs permeates our consciousness.
She will be missed…Let’s let her rest in peace now…Her story is complete.
