Health and Human Services’s definition of a “religious employer” is now being used to exclude Catholic and other Christian and pro-life healthcare providers from using their own healthcare programs for their employees. Catholic and other Christian organizations provide their employees with healthcare plans that do not include abortions or in the case of the Catholic organizations, contraception.
Under the new HHS “religious employer” definition, these religious organizations would have to limit their hiring to only people of their faith and restrict services to only people of their own faith. In short, Catholic institutions would be limited to having Catholic employees only and only serve Catholics. This is insane and inhuman to start but also flies in the face of discrimination if someone is denied care or employment if they are NOT Catholic!
Ten days ago we wrote on how the Left is systematically eliminating religious institutions from providing healthcare or participating in supporting victims of human trafficking in an article titled, “US Catholics Wake Up! The Left is Taking Over Your Church and Its Rights“. (http://wp.me/p1ykk5-1m)
The Government is using its grant funding to exclude Catholic institutions specifically from providing human trafficking services to victims and Obamacare with its abortion and contraception mandates to exclude Catholics and other Christian organizations from providing healthcare services. The Christian organizations specifically refuse to perform abortion services that violate their church’s beliefs and teaching. This is at the heart of Freedom of Religion and why the State cannot mandate to churches what their beliefs should be nor punish them for those beliefs.
This is the first time in our history where our government is attacking religion in an open and blatant violation of the US Constitution. It will be interesting to see if the Government will maintain this same posture the first time it is challenged by Islamic Healthcare institutions or if the Government is merely anti-Christian.
